Sound design is the process of creatively manipulating audio, synthesizers, samplers, and effects. It’s an essential skill that will take your production to the next level and give your music a unique, defining sound. In this 16-hour course taught by Lenny Kiser (Ableton Certified Trainer), you’ll take a fun, hands-on approach to sound design, and you’ll walk away with the practical techniques and knowledge you need to incorporate original sounds into your own tracks.

First, you’ll master the fundamentals of synthesis by using Ableton’s Analog synthesizer to create custom synth presets. By the end of the course, you’ll have a full understanding of basis synth operation, which you can then apply to any hardware or software synthesizer. You’ll also learn advanced methods for sampling, chopping, and manipulating audio in the Simpler device. Finally, you’ll dive into the creation of custom audio effect racks, and you’ll expand your production with the use of automation.

This course also includes an extensive collection of project files. You’ll follow along and apply sound design techniques to the provided Ableton projects so you can see how and when to use the different design tools available in Ableton. And the project files contain all the sounds and custom presets shown in the demonstrations, so you can always go back and reference what you learned in class.
